Anita Watts Fine Bronze Sculpture - Gene "Duke" Ellington Memorial
The community of Eaton expressed a desire to honor Gene "Duke" Ellington with a Bronze Memorial for his contributions to education. "Duke" had been a respected teacher, coach, and principal from 1947 through 1980. As a coach "Duke" had guided the basketball team to a State Championship in 1948 and a runner-up Championship in 1950. The same year, he started the school's Track program and netted a State Championship for the Boy's Mile Relay team three years in a row...1950, 1951, and 1952. Anita had a personal tie to "Duke's" Track team as her older brother, Ramon, ran the anchor lap on all three years of the winning Mile Relay team's wins. "Duke" was the principal at Eaton High School from 1956 until he retired in 1980. He was known for having a positive influence on the education of many high school students and went out of his way to keep students in school until they achieved graduation. As a teacher, coach, and principal, "Duke" always challenged students to achieve their greatest potential. Anita was honored to be asked to design his memorial. Sculpture CommissionsThe majority of my work is done on commission as bronze portraits of people and animals. I enjoy working with clients and watch for the way they connect and interact with others. I also enjoy sculpting all kinds of animals doing things with people, young and old. My intent is to capture that special look that identifies the unique personality of my subject. I am always in pursuit of excellence, combining my artistic vision with an infinite love for people and animals, and transforming that into bronze sculpture. |
Sculpture that captures the spirit of a brief moment caught in time and space… sometimes nostalgic, sometimes whimsical, …but always heartening, energetic, and full of life. |
